What does 4th degree forgery mean?

A friend of my daughter signed the back of a check with her name on it because he asked her to show her ID to get it cashed. He said it was his mother-in-laws. The clerk at the store told her to put her name instead of payee. Now she is charged with 4th degree forgery.
