Does Minnesota have the death penalty?

A friend and I were arguing that a person can be put on the death penalty in Minnesota. I say no, because it was completely abolished. He says yes, only in a federal offense case. Who's right?

Your friend is right. If a person is convicted under Minnesota law, they cannot be subjected to the death penalty. However some offenses can occur in Minnesota and be charged in federal court under certain circumstances, and the most serious of those crimes could involve the death penalty.
