Can co-habitating partners file for bankruptcy together? How?

My girlfriend and I live together and have done so for 10 years. We do not believe in marriage but are for all practical purposes married. Can we file for bankruptcy together or do you have to be married?

Only married couples can file a joint bankruptcy. ?Cohabitating couples can file bankruptcy at the same time and it will simplify things a bit but you'll both have to pay a filing fee and probably more to the attorney than in a joint case (because all the paperwork, etc. is doubled)
